Why Bra Deserves More Than a Stopover

Most tourists drive through Bra on the way to Alba or Barolo. Their loss. Bra is the birthplace of the Slow Food movement, a real working Italian town with genuine character, excellent food, and none of the tourist-trap pricing you’ll find in Alba. We live here. These are our honest recommendations.

The Walking Tour

Bra’s historic center is compact, elegant, and best discovered on foot. From Loft Trevisan, you can explore the heart of the city in a relaxed, scenic loop.

The loft itself is housed in a former military barracks dating back to the 1760s, once home to the legendary 2° Reggimento Alpini. The high ceilings and thick stone walls are part of that history.

Begin your walk right outside the loft, following Via Cavour toward the lively shopping and café area between Via Principi di Piemonte and Via Vittorio Emanuele II — a charming stretch filled with boutiques, wine bars, and local life.

Continue along Via Pollenzo, heading toward the green terraces of the Giardini della Rocca (Giardino del Belvedere “Padre Ettore Molinaro”). From here, continue into the cultural heart of the city and explore:

  • Palazzo Mathis, a historic palace hosting exhibitions and cultural events
  • Palazzo Traversa, home to the civic museum
  • Chiesa di Sant’Andrea, a baroque church with a striking interior
  • The Slow Food headquarters, located nearby — birthplace of the movement that transformed how the world thinks about food in 1986
  • Chiesa della SS. Trinità, a beautifully decorated baroque church

For those who enjoy a longer walk, continue up to Villa La Zizzola – Casa dei Braidesi, the city’s iconic hilltop landmark and symbol of Bra.

For tourist information, the Ufficio Turistico di Bra is your starting point. Check Turismo in Bra for events and news.
